View Creator →Song about lives Ups and downs [Intro] I used to think that strength Meant never hitting the ground Then life raised up the hammer... And brought it down [Verse 1] I was young when I learned how the hard days come Thought I knew what a man could take I wore my pride like a coat of steel Till the first blow showed what was fake Years rolled in and the fire burned Some doors closed and some bridges fell Every time I thought I'd seen the worst I heard that hammer ring again [Pre-Chorus] Fire below me Steel in my hands I finally understand... [Chorus] The hammer knows my name I've heard it all my life Every blow left something changed But never took my fight Let the sparks climb through the dark Let that old steel ring The hammer knows my name But it don't own me [Verse 2] I've buried things I couldn't save I've carried words I can't take back Watched good intentions turn to dust And learned there's no straight road back But somewhere underneath those scars Something stronger stayed alive I quit asking why the hammer fell And started asking what survived [Pre-Chorus] Fire behind me Steel in my hands Now I understand... [Chorus] The hammer knows my name I've heard it all my life Every blow left something changed But never took my fight Let the sparks climb through the dark Let that old steel ring The hammer knows my name But it don't own me [Breakdown] I ain't asking for an easy road I ain't asking for the pain to end If there's something left inside this steel— SWING. AGAIN. I AIN'T FINISHED YET. [Bridge] I can see it in the metal now Every mark and every line Nothing forged comes from the fire Looking like it did going inside I wasn't made by what went wrong Or every hand that walked away I was shaped by what I chose to do Every time that hammer came [Final Chorus] The hammer knows my name So let the whole world hear I've stood beneath a thousand blows And I'm still standing here Let the sparks climb through the dark Let that old steel ring The hammer knows my name— But it never owned me [Outro] So if the hammer falls again... Swing. Again.
